Today we kegged our newest beer, Schoolcraft Lager, and today it will be available to the public for the first time ever in our taproom. Brewed fresh with local U.P. ingredients, it’s a true example of how beer was meant to be enjoyed.
Our take on the traditional Märzen style, Schoolcraft is mild yet malty, combined with a crisp and slightly bitter finish from the addition of Cascade hops. Just a touch of locally-sourced honey from Schoolcraft County lends a lighter body to this beer, aiding in its drinkability.
The September 29th release date for this beer is a tribute to its German roots. This is the day that brewing was allowed to resume in Old Bavaria. Brewing was typically a fall to spring affair, since summer fermentations often led to dangerous or sub-par beer. Brewery operations had to be halted by April 23, so the last beers brewed were often called Märzen, after the month of March, or März. Märzens are the precursor to the Octoberfest style, words often used interchangeably.
Now quit reading our short history lesson and join us in our taproom to raise a pint to brewing beer the way it was meant to be. Prost!
